Kanapaha Church 1859-188(3)
This stark example of Florida pioneer churches stood at the edge of Kanapaha prairie, where the Kanapaha Cemetery now exists. It fell into disuse during the Civil War, and though re-convened post war, it was believed that the church would fare better if located along the Florida Transit Railway. It is believed from references found in Serena Haile's diary, that 1884 marked the point at which this church was razed. It is believed that usable timbers were kept with which the new church would be constructed; the remnants of the old structure being likely burned. Reverend McCormick died in 1882, and thus never witnessed the laying of the cornerstone for the New Kanapaha Church in July of 1886.
